A collective of artist/coders who work on stories that teach & explain the amazing worlds we see when we program computers.
Interested?
We are starting to have meetups & organize the digital.
More digital organization this Fall.
First official meetup!
August 11, 2010
Spyhouse Cafe 7 p.m.
2451 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis
Please RSVP to Chach: chachasikes@gmail.com - coffeeshop isn't small, but it isn't that big.
What to bring
Bring art supplies that blend OK in a coffeeshop (not totally messy/smelly/runny).
Bring digital cameras, key lights and other small useful tools.
Bring sketchbooks, paper, tape, scissors, stencil cutters.
Whatever you might already like to use.
What we can make
little storyboards about programming
little, stop motion table-top animations/claymations (not tons of frames, more like 10)
characters & 'props' that other people can use in their stories (make drawings, cut them out)
What we will do
draw, make stuff, take pictures and little videos
talk about programming
talk about drawing & animation & illustration & making stories
share our pictures & stories & meeting notes online afterwards
talk about the idea of making this a collective & doing more of it
What we have
lists of programming ideas that need some explaining
cast of characters - sometimes it's easier to make a little creature and then give it to someone else so they can use it in their story.
Examples
Projects made at the Internet Variety Store July 20-26
Concatenation Slideshow
This is a really, really simple demonstration of what we can make. Paper cut-outs, digital camera, simple social media tools. We can of course get more elaborate & fancy.
My friend Joe Shindelar came to the Internet Variety Store and we talked about what we should make, while also talking about teaching programming. Joe is also Drupal & GitHub-obsessed, he is a Lullabot trainer & has contributed code that will be in Drupal 7 core (in the image module!)
He made a snowman. I made a movie that stars his snowman.
Our first super-super short film
This is a story of a broken HTML link.
Concept by Karoline Daneheart - in which a bunny rabbit STEALS a strawberry (true story.)
Don't be too scared by the ferocious CAT!
Flash movie by Karoline Daneheart, starring a garden by Chach & a Cat by Joe Shindelar, bunny by Karoline!

Rainy Sunny Bunny
A storyboard about a bunny that has to use logic so he won't get wet!
This storyboard was created by Michael Yee, who works at Target.
Github
Life isn't all bunnies. We're hardcore. Some of the stuff we make will get hosted on github. If you don't know how to use git or github, we can teach you.
